To the Editor:

Few of us take enough time to say thanks to leaders representing our beliefs and principles on our behalf.

So today, I would like to express gratitude to Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita — one of our elected officials who is actually willing to fight hard for Hoosiers even when it means becoming a favorite target of those who oppose our values and have no qualms weaponizing our institutions.

I believe Indiana is fortunate to have Attorney General Rokita as the state’s chief legal officer — defending our laws, protecting our liberties and safeguarding consumers.

Many Hoosiers might know Attorney General Rokita best for his stands supporting life, religious liberty or the Second Amendment. They know he has fought back against Big Tech, open borders and vaccine mandates.

Of course, as Hancock County’s prosecutor, I am particularly grateful to Attorney General Rokita and his team for their excellent work in handling more than 1,000 criminal appeals cases per year.

County prosecutors such as myself — along with our dedicated staffs, of course — work long hours to secure criminal convictions. It’s all part of our mission to hold wrongdoers accountable for their crimes and ensure that justice is done.

After our work is finished, however, it is Attorney General Rokita’s team that works to ensure that criminal convictions are upheld in cases where defendants appeal their cases to higher courts. His team does an outstanding job in this regard — achieving success in an overwhelming majority of cases.

I am also grateful for the teamwork and cooperation we have had from Rokita’s office in a variety of cases locally. They have been tremendous to work with to see that consumers who have been defrauded secure judgements. For example, when they secured a judgement of almost $38,000 out of litigation with Greenfield Granite a few years ago, it provided some relief to the families who had been defrauded. It was particularly helpful because in that case we were no longer able to proceed with any criminal investigation or prosecution due to the death of the potential defendant. Attorney General Rokita’s Office has also have been very helpful when we are dealing with highly technical cases involving fraud, or professional licensing issues. They have augmented our manpower by agreeing to have their staff attorneys sworn in as deputy prosecutors to help us to litigate those types of cases. If they had not done so those case would likely have been be beyond our capacity to pursue with our present staffing levels. As a prosecutor, I look forward to continuing to work with Attorney General Rokita for years to come.
