Greenfield-Central’s girls soccer team followed a big first half with a bigger second half.

The Cougars, after scoring four first-half goals, scored six in the second in a 10-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference victory at New Castle Tuesday.

Greenfield-Central improved to 4-6-1 overall and evened its HHC mark to 3-3. New Castle dropped to 1-9-1 on the season and 0-6 in conference matches.

On a night with a lot of outstanding performances, Alyssa Deckard led the way with five goals. She also had one assist. Ainsley Robinson had a hat-trick (three goals) and a pair of assists. Paige McCarley scored a goal and had three helpers. Kalyn Moss had a goal and an assist. Carly Means and Jorja Houston each dished out assists.

Goalkeeper Jessica Merritt had one save to preserve the team’s second shutout of the seasons. The Cougars shutout Greenwood (3-0) on Sept. 11 at the G-C Soccer Complex.

The six second-half goals came in the first 10:34 of the final period.

The Cougars will look to finish the conference season above .500 when they host Shelbyville Thursday.

Saturday’s match at Oldenburg Academy, a 10 a.m. start, will have the varsity playing prior to the junior varsity match.

Greenfield-Central wins

In the second match of a stretch of three matches in three days, Greenfield-Central’s boys tennis team traveled to Greenwood and earned a 4-1 victory.

Ranked N0. 29 in the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association poll, the Cougars play host to Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Yorktown today at 5:30 p.m. It will be the team’s Senior Night.
