HANCOCK COUNTY — An Indianapolis man is facing felony drug charges after officials with the McCordsville Police Department (MPD) found him in possession of methamphetamine and other drugs earlier this week.

Dean J. Fellers, 60, 8000 block of East 50th Street, has been charged with a Level 4 felony count of possession of methamphetamine and three different misdemeanor drug possession charges from an incident Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Fellers, who is still in the Hancock County Jail, is slated to have his initial hearing in Hancock County Circuit Court Thursday, Sept. 7.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officials from the MPD were traveling through the Meijer parking lot, 6939 West Broadway, when an officer observed a man, later identified as Fellers, in the Crew Carwash parking lot next to the vacuum cleaners located at the address of 6963 West Broadway around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning.

According to the affidavit, when Fellers was asked if he owned the truck he was standing near, he told the officer, “no.” Fellers told the officer he was purchasing it from another man, but a run on the truck plates showed the vehicle belonged to a third man not mentioned.

When the officer asked Fellers to show the registration for the truck, the official noted a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and an orange pill bottle with a clear plastic bag sticking out of the top of it sitting in the cup holder in the center console, the affidavit said.

Fellers told the officer he found the pill bottle in the dumpster where he was near, the affidavit said. Officials noted in the report there were three clear, plastic bags inside of the orange pill bottle. One plastic bag contained a green, leafy, plant-like substance which officials knew to be marijuana; the second bag contained a white, crystal-like substance which officials knew to be methamphetamine and the third bag had a white, crystal-like substance which officials say was also methamphetamine.

A further search of the truck also produced other drugs and paraphernalia, the affidavit said. Officials found white, capsule-shaped pills. Eight of the white, capsule-shaped pills were marked with IP109. Three of the white, capsule shaped pills were marked with M365 on one side.

Officials noted in the report that dispatch advised them that the white, capsule-shaped pills marked with IP109 on one side were hydrocodone bitartrate, a schedule II controlled substance; and the white, capsule-shaped pills marked with M365 on one side were also hydrocodone bitartrate.
