Open house, volunteer fair coming up

GREENFIELD – The Community Foundation of Hancock County will host an open house and volunteer fair at its new headquarters Sept. 30.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Thrive Center, 971 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield.

Numerous nonprofits will be on site with a variety of opportunities to volunteer. Guests can also tour the new building, learn about Imagination Library and enjoy a popcorn bar.

Sorority hosts mum fundraiser

GREENFIELD – The Upsilon chapter of Psi Iota Xi is selling mums from Sunnyside Greenhouses. The flowers sell for $10.50 each and come in red, orange, yellow, purple and white. The mums are in a 9-inch pot, and they are about 18 inches across and 14 to 18 inches tall. To order, contact Katie Ottinger by Sept. 1 at 317-318-8313 (call or text).

Comfort House community event Sept. 9

GREENFIELD – A community open house is coming up for people to check out a new option for transitional housing in Hancock County. The Comfort House, a ministry of Mt. Comfort Church, will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at 2265 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is at 11:15 a.m. The event will feature house tours and free lunch from Smokin’ Barrel BBQ. The church remodeled its former parsonage into a space for families displaced by fire, flood, tornado or disaster to stay.

Fire prevention community event Sept. 23

NEW PALESTINE – The Sugar Creek Township Fire Department will host a free community event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23.

The Fire Prevention and Safety Open House will feature free bicycle helmets, fire truck tours, a sheriff’s department demonstration, bounce houses, antique fire truck rides and a medical helicopter. The event is at 3545 S. 600W., New Palestine.
