McCordsville teen to be charged in deadly shooting

LAWRENCE — A McCordsville teenager has been named as one of two 16-year-old males who have been charged with murder in connection to a deadly shooting in Marion County. Officials say the two teens will be charged as adults following a lengthy investigation.

Prosecutors in Marion County have formally charged Derek Reasor, 16, McCordsville, and Quayvon George, 16, Indianapolis in the shooting, which occurred back in May. Officials said in a probable cause affidavit the incident appears to be a drug deal gone wrong.

Reasor has been charged with two different Level 1 felony counts of murder, a Level 1 felony count of attempted murder, a Level 2 felony count of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, two Level 3 felony charges of robbery resulting in bodily injury, and attempted armed robbery as well as a Class A misdemeanor charge of dangerous possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, Reasor was arrested late last week and made his initial appearance in Marion Superior Court 30 at that time. He’s scheduled for a status of council hearing Monday, July 24 with a jury trial tentatively set for mid-September.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officials with the Lawrence Police Department were dispatched to a report of a person shot at 8046 Louisville Drive in The Reserve at Franklin Glenn Apartments May 26. Upon arrival, officers located a male slumped over the steering wheel of a light blue Ford Focus. The victim was identified as Bryce Brown, 18, Indianapolis. Officials said he had been shot in the head, the report stated.

Shortly after, officials were called to the the Marathon gas station at 8005 East 42nd Street where a second male had been found. He had been shot in the stomach, officials said in the report. That gunshot victim has not been identified but was was transported to Eskenazi Hospital by medics for further treatment.

A source told officials the suspects who did the shooting were inside the Sinclair gas station on the northeast corner of 42nd and Franklin Road just prior to the incident.

An investigation led officials to the two 16 year-old teenagers, who now faces multiple serious felony charges as adults, officials said.

The other 16 year-old charged in the case, George, is facing four crimes in all, including a Level 1 felony count of murder, a Level 2 felony count of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury and two Level 3 felony counts of armed robbery and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury.
