Eyeglass collection drive this month

GREENFIELD – New and used eyeglasses will be accepted the entire month of June in support of Lions Optical Missions.

Erlewein Mortuary and Crematory is hosting an eyeglass collection drive. Drop off glasses at 1484 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield.

Drone certification class coming up

GREENFIELD – Those interested in becoming a commercial Unmanned Aerial Vehicle remote pilot might consider an upcoming course through Purdue Extension-Hancock County.

An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Technology Program will cover federal test preparation, flight instructions, camera settings, flight plans and record keeping, data management, troubleshooting and more. The UAV program will teach individuals legal requirements and how to obtain a Federal Aviation Administration Certification.

The courses are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 24 and 26 at Purdue Extension-Hancock County, 972 E. Park Ave., Greenfield. Cost is $200 and registration is at cvent.me/QW3aaR; deadline to register is July 16. For questions, email [email protected] or [email protected] or call 317-462-1113.

Leadership group accepting applications

GREENFIELD – Applications are open for the 2023-2024 class of Leadership Hancock County.

LHC develops leaders to assume an active role in the growth, manage and success of Hancock County communities, according to the group’s website. Since 1994 LHC provides classes, training, projects and more for local residents and community employees. To learn more, visit leadhc.org. Applications are due Aug. 4.

New summer event coming to McCordsville

MCCORDSVILLE – The town of McCordsville is planning a summer event and is seeking vendors and sponsors.

McCordsville Party in the Park will be 6-9 p.m. Aug. 19 at Town Hall Park, 6280 W. 800N., McCordsville.

Applications are available to all local businesses, organizations, farmers and arts/crafts vendors to reserve a vendor space at $40. Sponsorships for the event start at $150 and include free vendor space.

This is the first year of the event, which will include free activities for the community including face painting, harnessed trampoline jumping, an inflatable obstacle course, ax throwing, a caricature artist and more. Visit mccordsville.org.
