Three Hancock County singles players and three Hancock County doubles teams were named to the recently announced Hoosier Heritage Conference girls tennis team.

Mount Vernon sophomore singles player Kylie Brandes and the Delta doubles team of senior Janet Wegener and freshman Kate Major headline the all-HHC selections.

Other singles players chosen by the leagueā€™s coaches included, Delta junior Gabby Knight, Delta sophomore Bryler Beckley, New Palestine senior Olivia Hasenkamp, Yorktown sophomore Jillian Darby and Greenfield-Central senior Brianna McConnell.

Other doubles selections were: Mount Vernon sophomores Carmen Lugo and Kim Joubert, New Palestine junior Josephine Harvey and sophomore Bethany Blachly and Greenfield-Central seniors Emma Berty and Jaclyn Layton.

Coach of the Year was Deltaā€™s Tim Cleland. The Eagles were 7-0 in the league, 21-4 overall and competed in the state finals.

Mount Vernon was 6-1, New Palestine 5-2, Greenfield-Central 4-3, Yorktown 3-4, Shelbyville 2-5, Pendleton Heights 1-6 and New Castle 0-7. Mount Vernon and Shelbyville also won sectional titles.

Brandes missed a portion of the season due to injury, but bounced back to finish strong. She led her team to three victories and a championship in the Mt. Vernon Sectional. She finished the season with a 17-2 record.

Hasenkamp won the Hancock County title at No. 1 singles. For the season, Hasenkamp went 15-8 and 5-2 in HHC singles matches.

Shortly after the county tournament, McConnell moved from the teamā€™s No. 2 singles spot to No. 1. She finished with double figures in victories in her senior season.

Mt. Vernonā€™s sophomore team of Lugo and Joubert played at the No. 1 spot for the Marauders and had an 11-14 record. They were runners-up in the county tournament.

New Palestineā€™s pair of Blachly and Harvey were county champions at No. 1 doubles. They were 15-9 overall and 5-2 in conference matches. They reached the individual doubles tournament sectional final before being eliminated.

Greenfield-Centralā€™s senior tandem of Berty and Layton started playing together following the Hancock County tournament. They grabbed the teamā€™s lone point in a 4-1 loss to Mt. Vernon in the sectional title match and moved on to play in the IHSAA individual doubles tournament, losing a three-setter to the Blachly/Harvey team.
