GREENFIELD – A public hearing about a proposed “right-sizing” to narrow the roadway on U.S. 40 just west of Greenfield will be at 6 p.m. today.

The Indiana Department of Transportation will host the meeting at the Hancock County Courthouse Annex’s Commissioners Courtroom, 311 American Legion Place. The proposed project would change U.S. 40 between Windswept Road and Hancock County Road 500 West to be one travel lane in either direction with a center turn lane, from the current two travel lanes in either direction. From county roads 500 West to 600 West, the roadway will remain two travel lanes in each direction. According to a press release from INDOT, the reconfiguration is expected to reduce the potential for crashes and provide safe access for driveways while maintaining traffic flow.

The public is able to speak with the project team at the event and ask questions. With advance notice, INDOT will also provide accommodations to people with disabilities; email Sarah Doyle at [email protected] or call 317-409-6167.

Written comments may also be submitted by June 28 to Brittney Layton, environmental scientist, [email protected] or by calling 317-713-4615.
