Local libraries host events for children, teens

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local libraries continue their summer reading clubs this month with several events coming up.

Magician Ryan will perform June 12, while Professor Steve will perform a science and invention show June 19. Performances are in both New Palestine and Greenfield. Train as a Jedi and interact with special guests in Star Wars Solstice Day at 6 p.m. June 21 at the Greenfield branch of the Hancock County Public Library. Or have a night out with Dad in a Father’s Day Nerf War event at 5:30 p.m. June 22 in New Palestine. Learn more or register at hcplibrary.org.

Teen programs to beat the heat include a Mario Kart tournament each Thursday and teen games June 14 in Greenfield. Head to the New Palestine branch June 15 for a teen/tween self-defense workshop, or teen henna art June 29. Register at hcplibrary.org.

The Vernon Township Public Library will host storytimes at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday this month at the library, or an outside storytime in McCorsdville Town Park every Thursday morning. Business provides crafting camp for children

GREENFIELD – A local business is offering crafting summer camps for children.

Handmade Dwelling, located at 5987 N. 300W., Greenfield, offers summer camps in June and July with hands-on projects for children such as paint pouring, 3-D laser crafting, stencil work, mixed media and macrame. Parks, theater to show free movies this summer

GREENFIELD – Free movies are available this summer.

Greenfield Parks and Recreation has its 2023 Summer Movies Series, with movies at various dates at local parks throughout the summer. For dates and movie titles, visit facebook.com/greenfieldparks.

VIP Cinemas will also show free movies at 10 a.m. every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the summer. Called Summer Family Flicks, the series is on a first-come, first serve basis June 7-Aug. 10; no large parties and no reservations are available. Visit vipcinemas.com for details.

Children’s choir to host one-day camp

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Children’s Choir will host a one-day camp June 19.

The Music in Me Summer Camp is for ages 5 to 18 and includes singing, movement, rhythm and more. It will be at Mercy Road Church – Northeast, 611 Vitality Drive, Fortville. Those interested in joining the choir can take part in new student assessments. Register at hancockcountychidrenschoir.org.
