Blues band to play at Cross of Grace

NEW PALESTINE — The Occasional Blues Band will play a free concert from 7-9 p.m. June 9 at Cross of Grace Lutheran Church, 3519 S. County Road 600S, New Palestine.

Concertgoers should bring their own chairs, blankets, food and drink as desired.

Read-aloud features Lamentations

CUMBERLAND — The monthly community Bible read-aloud series continues at Heather Hills Baptist Church with the book of Lamentations, describing the fall of Jerusalem and the coming exile of the Hebrews.

Reading will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Past Bible read-alouds have typically lasted about an hour, but this one will likely be shorter. It takes about 20 minutes to read through Lamentations.

Church leaders say anyone is welcome to come join in the reading, or simply listen. The church is located at 1421 N. German Church Road, Indianapolis.

Strawberry Festival coming

GREENFIELD — The 39th annual Strawberry Festival is set for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 16.

Strawberries, ice cream and homemade shortcake will be served while supplies last at the southwest corner of Pennsylvania and Main streets. Cost is $8 at the event (cash or credit).

Proceeds will go to support Hancock County Food Pantry, Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen, Hope House, Love INC, The Landing Place, Talitha Koum Women’s Recovery House, Friends of Hancock County CASA and Bradley Preschool.

The festival was started in the 1980s by First Presbyterian Church on South Street. That church closed in 2020 — but not before it had passed the shortcake recipe on to nearby Bradley United Methodist Church, which agreed to continue the downtown tradition of both serving the festival fare and having the event benefit community organizations.
