A Greenfield man has died following a fatal crash on U.S. 40 Saturday, May 13.

MAXWELL — Officials with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department say a motorcycle accident involving a county man took the motorcycle driver’s life Tuesday night after first responders and medical personnel tried to save him.

The motorcycle driver, Aaron Munden, 32, Maxwell died overnight in an Indianapolis hospital, Capt. Robert Harris of the HCSD said.

Munden died after being taken to Methodist Hospital via ground transportation in critical condition late Tuesday, May 9. The accident, involving the motorcycle and two other vehicles, happened along the northern part of Ind. 9 at approximately 10:11 p.m.

Munden was riding southbound without a helmet near the 4400 block of North Ind. 9 when he was hit by another vehicle, Harris said in a release.

Officials believe a northbound Ford Mustang, driven by Sheila Abner, 74, Maxwell, turned in front of Munden while attempting to enter a driveway. Munden was hit and ejected from the motorcycle when it struck the Mustang. Munden was then struck by a third vehicle, a Buick Envision SUV driven by Brent Johnson, 50, Pendleton.

Both drivers submitted to voluntary blood draws as part of routine procedure. No drugs or alcohol are suspected, Harris said, but officials will wait for results as the investigation continues.

Munden was transported by ground ambulance to Methodist hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition at the time before passing overnight despite life-saving measures. Harris noted an autopsy was done on Munden Wednesday, May 10 and officials are waiting for those results to help finish the report.

Officials spent more than three hours at the scene. Harris noted an investigation by the Hancock County FACT Team is ongoing.
