NEW PALESTINE
Mildred (Stark) Ortel, age 90, of New Palestine, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Greenfield. She was born in Rushville on November 17, 1932, to Edwin and Opal (Marshall) Stark. She graduated from Rushville High School. She married Melvin Ortel on May 15, 1954 in New Palestine.
Over the years Mildred worked in the cafeterias of the Southern Hancock County Community School Corporation. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading and baking.
She is survived by her sons, Tim (Aiko) Ortel, Bruce (Becky) Ortel, Mark Ortel, Dave Ortel, and Paul Ortel; daughters, Marcia (Fred) Foster, Debra Jones, and Karen Ortel; grandchildren, Anne, Elizabeth, Kaleigh, Monica, Dana, Kathy, and Sam; great-granchild Caitlan; brother Jerry Stark; and sisters, Kathleen McDaniel and Linda Sparks; She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin; brothers, Tom Stark and Donny Stark; grandson, Cory Foster; daughter-in-law, Peggy Ortel, and son-in-law Steve Jones.
Visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church, 6513 W 300 S, New Palestine, IN 46163. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at noon. Pastor Jason Taylor will be officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in New Palestine.
