Bailey Proctor, Brady Basso and Brooklynn Wing display awards earned by Greenfield Central Junior High School seventh grade, eighth grade and jazz bands; the school’s band program recently received the All Music Award from a state association. These particular students have strong ties to the G-C program: they are Director Dave Poncar’s granddaughter; Director Jeremy Basso’s son; and high school Director Chris Wing’s daughter.

Junior high band earns state honor

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Central Junior High School’s band program was recently presented with an All Music Award by the Indiana State School Music Association. This is the second consecutive year for the school to receive the award; they are among 37 junior high bands from across the state to earn the honor. Criteria includes gold ratings in solos, ensembles, jazz band and concert events.

Local student joins national honor society

MCCORDSVILLE – Rylan Cole of McCordsville was recently welcomed into the National Leadership Honor Society of Omicron Delta Kappa.

Cole is a student at Indiana State University. Students initiated into the society must be sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class and demonstrate leadership experience. Cole is among 787 new initiates from 32 universities to be inducted in March 2023.

Music programs to have year-end concerts

GREENFIELD – Music programs at Greenfield-Central High School are wrapping up a school year with several upcoming performances, open to the community.

Parade of Bands, featuring all high school concert bands, junior high bands and the sixth grade band is at 7 p.m. today, May 9. Sweet Jazz event with desserts and beverages is at 7 p.m. May 12. The Spring Orchestra Concert is at 7 p.m. May 17 at the high school, featuring both the high school and junior high strings groups. And the Senior Farewell Choir Concert is at 7 p.m. May 19. Indiana Farm Bureau awards Bishop scholarship

GREENFIELD – Claire Bishop was recently awarded a scholarship from Indiana Farm Bureau.

Bishop, a senior at Greenfield-Central High School, will attend Purdue University. She was among 10 students across the state to receive a $1,000 Carolyn Hegel Memorial Scholarship. Winners of this scholarship must be incoming or current college students pursuing a degree in agriculture and are members of the farm bureau.

Local student participates in symposium

MCCORDSVILLE – Max Burhenn of McCordsville recently participated in the University of Findlay’s 2023 Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity.

Burhenn was honored as a Dana Scholar for 2021-2022. Undergraduate and graduate students were given the opportunity to share their research, creativity and professional learning experiences with the university and community, with many receiving honors at the same time. New homeschool curriculum sale this week

GREENFIELD – A new event for Hancock County’s homeschool community is coming up this week.

The Hancock County Homeschool Curriculum Sale, hosted by a local American Heritage Girls troop, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 at Park Chapel Christian Church, 1176 E. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Lunch and bake sale items will be available for purchase.
