GREENFIELD – The arrival of spring is bringing a growing group of birding enthusiasts back together for their favorite pastime.

The first Greenfield Birders group walk of the year was April 8 and continues every other week at local parks for a free opportunity of all ages and abilities to enjoy nature.

Local residents Adam and Sara Wilson lead the group, which has a following of more than 400 people on Facebook who frequently post photos and questions about their flying friends.

Birding excursions allow people to join together early on Saturday mornings for a one- to two-hour walk through a local park. Binoculars are suggested, but there are usually a few extra on hand to share, Adam Wilson said.

New this year are giveaways at the walks; occasionally birding experts join in for the experience and to share some knowledge.

Those who need accessible pathways might want to consider an excursion to Beckenholdt Family Park.

Bring a camera if you want to snap some shots, or simply enjoy the views and camaraderie with others who enjoy birding.
