Heavy trash pick-up April 15, 22

GREENFIELD – The city of Greenfield will launch its two-week program to pick up large or heavy trash items this weekend.

The 40th annual Heavy Pick-Up is Saturday, April 15 for residents on the east side of Ind. 9; and April 22 for residents on the west side of Ind. 9. Residents wanting items hauled away must have items at the curb by 7 a.m. Trash will only be picked up inside city limits; no need to call the street department to schedule a pick-up. However, for questions residents can call 317-325-1680. The program does not include apartment complexes, businesses, churches or alleys. Pick-up does not include household trash, limbs, tires, oil, batteries, building materials, basketball goals, or e-scrap like TVs or computer monitors. MV transfer enrollment windows opening

FORTVILLE – All students who live out-of-district and are interested in attending a Mt. Vernon school for the 2023-24 school year are required to submit an application during two upcoming windows. All current out-of-district and transfer students wanting to return next year must also submit an application.

The first application window is 4 p.m. April 14 through 8 a.m. April 24. The second application window is 4 p.m. May 5 through 8 a.m. May 15. Applications will be live during the application windows at mvcsc.k12.in.us/Transfer23.

Once a student is approved as a Mt. Vernon student, he or she will remain a Mt. Vernon student unless there is a major discipline or attendance issue. Those who live in the Mt. Vernon enrollment area do not need to apply.

Early voting available at several sites

HANCOCK COUNTY – Early voting for the primary election continues this month.

Registered voters can head to the magistrate’s court at the north entrance of the Hancock County Courthouse, 9 E. Main St., Greenfield. That location is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through April 28.

Beginning April 17, the Hancock County Public Library’s main branch will also host early voting. Hours are 9-7 p.m. weekdays April 17-28; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, April 22 and 29. The library is located at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

In Fortville, early voting takes place at the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation Administration Building, 1806 W. Ind. 234, Fortville. The site is open for voting 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays April 17-28; and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22 and 29. The building is not an Election Day vote center.

Voters could also head to Buck Creek Township Fire Department to vote early. The department, 5809 W. Airport Blvd., Greenfield, is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays April 17-28.

Election Day is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 2. There are several vote centers located throughout the county; a voter can head to any site regardless of their address. In addition to the Buck Creek Township Fire Department and HCPL, vote centers are at the Hancock County Courthouse Annex, 111 American Legion Place, Greenfield; Cumberland Town Hall, 11501 E. Washington St., Cumberland; Fortville Community Center, 400 W. Church St., Fortville; and McCordsville Town Hall, 6280 W. 800 N., McCordsville.
