Editor’s note: The Daily Reporter will occasionally feature our “Neighbors,” whether it be someone with an interesting hobby or profession, or a nonprofit group making a difference in our community. Here, Sheri Jones, owner of Studio 309 Art Studio in Fortville, shares about her creative passions. Jones is from Indianapolis and established the studio in Fortville as artist, owner and instructor in 2013. If you know a person or a group that you’d like to see featured in Neighbors, email [email protected].

Daily Reporter: How did you get interested in art?

Sheri Jones: I’ve always loved all sorts of types of art. Drawing, building things, and creating all things new. My love probably started when I was real little and loved to draw and color on my bedroom walls. My mom wasn’t too excited about that!

DR: What is your favorite type of art, and why?

SJ: My favorite type of art changes. When I applied to Herron School of Art it was because of my love for drawing, but then the more woodworking and sculpture classes I took I loved those 3D arts. Since I’ve had the studio I’ve really enjoyed painting.

DR: Tell us about your business.

SJ: We offer adult and kids parties, kids classes and art camps and also piano lessons.

DR: What do you enjoy most about the studio?

SJ: What I love about having an art studio is having the freedom to try anything I want and share that with others. I get to create for a living. I feel like it doesn’t get better than that!
