Mt. Vernon’s softball team dropped to 0-2 on the season after a 9-2 loss to Carmel Wednesday.
Tied 2-2 after the first inning, Carmel began pulling away after a five-run second inning. The Marauders were hurt by errors, committing five.
For Mt. Vernon, Ainsley Baer, Easton Wampler, Libby Gee-Weiler, Amya Gary and Shelby Rakosky all had hits. Gee-Weiler hit a double. Drew Fithian and Lexi Beeler each had an RBI. Gary and Rakosky scored the Marauder runs.
Pitcher Tori Jenson gave up just three earned runs and struck out three.
Cougars drop season opener
After having the first three dates on the scheduled postponed due to weather, Greenfield-Central’s softball team opened the regular season Wednesday at Hamilton Southeastern.
The game was originally slated to be played at G-C on Tuesday.
The Cougars got off to a great start, scoring six runs in the first inning, but the Royals answered with runs in five of their six at-bats and defeated G-C 14-6.
Makenna Rankin had a double and two RBIs. Faith Butler and Camille Burelison each had a double and RBI. Burelison and Josie White each had two hits. Addi Herrin also had an RBI.
