MV seeking public feedback on new curriculum

FORTVILLE – Mt. Vernon is considering new math textbooks and a list of novels for students to read, and is seeking public feedback.

The school corporation has posted information on curriculum at facebook.com/MtVernonSchoolDistrict. Parents and community members can also review resources from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until March 27 in the administration building’s main office.The school corporation’s novel list committee is also seeking board approval for seven novels to be added to the fifth and sixth grade novel lists. The list is found through the link, and the novels can also be reviewed in the administration’s building through March 27.

Education foundations get funding boost

HANCOCK COUNTY – The education foundations of Hancock County’s four public school systems were awarded $5,000 each by the Community Foundation of Hancock County.

The CFHC announced the grants online earlier this month. Each education foundation submitted an application for their current needs, including programming, capital improvement or operating expenses.

Eastern Hancock Education Foundation will use its grant for passion projects and a distinguished alumni event. The Greenfield Central School Foundation will use funds for Educational Enrichment (E2) grants for classrooms. Mt. Vernon Education Foundation will use grant funds to renew its fundraising software subscription. New Palestine Education Foundation will use funds for classroom grants.

G-C teachers, staff may be honored through STAR program

GREENFIELD – Parents and community members can honor Greenfield-Central teachers and staff through the STAR Power program with the Greenfield Central School Foundation.

The program, available online and through the mail, allows people to thank teachers, principals, coaches, librarians, bus drivers or cafeteria workers. Visit gcschoolfoundation.com/star-power to find a form to name a person, write an optional note, and contribute a minimum of $10. Each honoree will receive a personalized card listing the donor’s name and special sentiments. All proceeds provide additional resources for G-C teachers, classrooms and students. Forms may be downloaded and mailed in, with a check payable to Greenfield Central School Foundation, 110 W. North St., Greenfield. Donations to the foundation can also be made at gcschoolfoundation.com/donate.

Reading dogs coming to county libraries

GREENFIELD – Bentley’s Buddies and Friends will be at both locations of the Hancock County Public Library March 26.

The organization that helps students improve literacy through certified reading dogs in a relaxing environment will be in the children’s rooms of the Greenfield and New Palestine libraries at 1:30 p.m. March 26. There is no need to sign up. The Greenfield library is located at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield; the Sugar Creek branch is at 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine.
