Career opportunities available for high school students

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local high school students interested in aviation, computer science, criminal justice, health science/medical fields, and heating/cooling systems can apply for certification programs and dual credits.

All four Hancock County public schools have partnered to bring new career opportunities to students for the 2023-24 school year. The application deadline is March 10; students are encouraged to contact their school counselor for details and to pick up an application.

Youth council applications for D.C. trip accepted

GREENFIELD – Indiana’s electric cooperatives, including NineStar Connect, are accepting applications from high school juniors for the 2023 Indiana Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington D.C.

The trip is planned for June 11-18. Students will be selected for a Youth Leadership Council based on applications. For more information, email [email protected] or apply at indianayouthtour.org.

Spring bazaar at G-CHS planned

GREENFIELD – The fourth annual Spring Bazaar at Greenfield-Central High School is planned for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 1. Local vendors will be on site with Easter baskets, Mother’s Day gifts, prom accessories, spring cleaning items and more. The Easter Bunny will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

JAG honors local students

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local chapters of Jobs for America’s Graduates recognized students with awards recently.

A competitive conference was in February, awarding students with various skills related to professions. The Greenfield-Central JAG’s Aidan Hall earned second place for creative solutions; Ethan Matchett, third place, financial literacy; Madison Leyh, third place, writing skills; and honorable mention to Aryana Hibbard, employability skills; Alex Martinez, career presentation, JC Matlock, critical thinking, Callie Means, public speaking; and Geo Sanchez, project-based learning. The entire G-C JAG program earned third place for a brochure.

Jordan Anderson was honored as outstanding senior at Greenfield-Central High School.

Lillian Kendrick was honored as outstanding senior for the JAG program Eastern Hancock Junior/Senior High School.

Braden Thomas was honored outstanding JAG senior at Mt. Vernon High School.

Scholarship applications through community foundation due

HANCOCK COUNTY – Deadlines are approaching for scholarships through the Community Foundation of Hancock County.

Trade and technology scholarship applications close April 14; contact [email protected] for details.

The Jeannine Miller Scholarship in support of guidance, counseling and social work is accepting applications through May 1; $8,000 will be awarded. Students are encouraged to contact their building principal for application information or email [email protected].
