Dining events to benefit G-C prom committee

GREENFIELD – Several dine-to-donate events are coming up with proceeds benefiting the Greenfield-Central high School Junior Prom Committee.

Dairy Queen will donate 15% of all food sales 4-8 p.m. today, Feb. 28. Qdoba will donate 25% of all food sales 4-8 p.m. March 7.

Applebee’s in Greenfield will host a Flapjack Fundraiser at 8 a.m. March 11; the $10 ticket includes pancakes, sausage and a drink. For tickets, see any Greenfield-Central JAG II member or Darren Turner, [email protected].

Kindergarten enrollment open at EHES

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Kindergarten enrollment is open at Eastern Hancock Elementary School, with registration events scheduled for March 15-16.

To enroll, visit easternhancock.org and click on Kindergarten Roundup. Once enrollment is approved, parents will be sent a link to schedule an appointment for March 15 or 16.

Casino event set for NPEF

NEW PALESTINE – The New Palestine Education Foundation will host a gala and auction to raise funds for the organization and classroom projects. Casino Royale will take place April 14 at Adaggios Banquet and Conference Center, 5999 W. Memory Lane, Greenfield.

MV gala coming up

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation’s annual Black and Gold Gala is coming up to raise funds for local teachers and special projects, as well as to honor distinguished teachers and staff.

New homeschool curriculum sale this spring

GREENFIELD – A new event for Hancock County’s homeschool community is coming up, featuring curriculum and food for purchase.

The Hancock County Homeschool Curriculum Sale, hosted by a local American Heritage Girls troop, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10 at Park Chapel Christian Church, 1176 E. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Sellers retain 100% of their sales with no consignment; vendors are welcome to reserve a table for their business or organization. DePauw, RIT names local honor students

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several students with local ties were named to dean’s lists at universities for the fall semester of the 2022-23 academic year.

Alexander Yovanovich of McCordsville was named to the dean’s list at Rochester Institute of Technology. Yovanovich is in the microelectronic engineering program. RIT is located in New York; to earn the dean’s list honor, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.4 while completing at least 12 credit hours.

Several local students were also named to DePauw University’s dean’s list for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.Tessa Freeman of Greenfield, Elizabeth Harris of New Palestine, Lily Jennings of McCordsville, Emma Mann of New Palestine, Kendall Mann of New Palestine, Gregory Miles of Greenfield, Grace Myers of New Palestine, Julia Patras of Fortville, Haley Riley of McCordsville, Kelly Seifert of McCordsville, Katherine Steele of Greenfield, Morgan Tharp of McCordsville, were all recognized. DePauw is a liberal arts institution located in Greencastle.

Special education meeting coming up

GREENFIELD – An event is coming up to help parents prepare for their child’s special education case conference.

Insource Special Education Parent Support will present a meeting from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 1 at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. The session reviews the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act and how parents can use principles from IDEA to help them express concerns about their child’s special education program. MV seeking public feedback on new curriculum

FORTVILLE – Mt. Vernon is considering new math textbooks and a list of novels for students to read, and is seeking public feedback.

The school corporation has posted information on curriculum at facebook.com/MtVernonSchoolDistrict. Parents and community members can also review resources from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until March 27 in the administration building’s main office.The school corporation’s novel list committee is also seeking board approval for seven novels to be added to the fifth and sixth grade novel lists. The list is found through the link, and the novels can also be reviewed in the administration’s building through March 27.

NPHS band program to host mattress sale

NEW PALESTINE – New Palestine High School’s band program will host a mattress fundraiser.

The one-day sale through Custom Fundraising Solutions Indianapolis will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 12 in the NPHS main gym. Brand name mattresses are available for below retail; a portion of proceeds goes back to the band program.
