He spent all of his youth in the Markleville area. As a youngster, he was given the nickname “Luke”. He was a skilled athlete and received 10 varsity letters in high school at Markleville and held the school record in the low hurdles. He married his wife, Ann (Kline) in 1975, and they lived in Pendleton. He graduated from Ball State University and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He retired from Guide (GM) in 1999 after 30 years of service. He spent most of his career as a buyer in the purchasing department.

He also enjoyed watching IU basketball, rooting for the Red Sox, playing euchre with his co-workers, doing yard work, wearing tropical print shirts, listening to Kenny G music, and most of all, spending time with his family. He was a blood donor and donated for many years at work and in Florida. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Anderson and attended Grace United Methodist Church in Florida.

In 2004 he moved to Southwest Florida to enjoy his retirement. He became a “snowbird” in 2019, splitting his time between Pendleton and Florida so that he could spend more time with his family.
