GREENFIELD – Officials with the Greenfield Police Department and the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team are investigating the discovery of a male body found Tuesday morning just off of Windswept Road.

Capt. Chuck McMichael from the GPD noted the man, they believe to be in his 40s, was connected with an abandoned accident scene officials from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department investigated around 4:20 a.m. Monday morning near N. Windswept Road, and Dove Trail, in Greenfield.

McMichael noted they received a call from a constuction worker around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning saying they’d found a dead body off of N. Windswept Road near Dove Trail. Police arrived on the scene and quickly put two and two together recalling the abandoned vehicle from a crash the previous day and after some investigating say the two incidents are related.

“Everything right now appears it is related to the accident,” McMichael said.

Officials from the GPD say the body, which was not in as easily seen area was about 600 yards away from where the accident occurred Monday. McMichael noted when officials find an abandoned vechile they normally do a search of several hundred yards, but not 600 yards, which indicates the victim might have walked after being in the crash and fallen due to injuries sustained in the crash or had some help getting away from the accident scene.

Officials are still investigating and are not releasing the name of the man found just yet.

The Daily Reporter will have more on this story in the Wednesday edition of the paper.
