BROWNSBURG — Mt. Vernon’s Riley Nielsen placed seventh at Tuesday’s IHSAA Diving Regional at Brownsburg High School and qualified for Saturday’s IHSAA Girls Diving State Finals at IU Natatorium.

The top eight divers earned spots into Saturday’s finals..

Nielsen was one of 20 divers competing in Tuesday’s event and one of 12 to make the regional finals.

The Marauder senior scored 314.75 points and was the highest finisher of four qualifiers from Saturday’s New Palestine Sectional. Centerville’s Taylor Heaston placed 11th.

New Palestine’s Ava Tuley and Shelbyville’s Maiah Helfer-Vazquez also competed in the event, but did not qualify for the finals.

Nielsen was the sectional champion at New Palestine. Tuley was runner-up. Heaston was third and Helfer-Vazquez placed fourth.

Park Tudor’s Simone Hall won the event with 470.60 points.
