Line dancing event to benefit local schools

GREENFIELD – A new line dancing fundraiser is planned for February, with proceeds benefiting all of Hancock County’s public school corporations.

The inaugural Hancock County Boot Scootin’ Boogie is planned for 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield.

The $40 ticket includes a hog roast BBQ dinner and free lessons from line dancing instructor Jeff Smilko. The event will include dancing with 915 Kid DJ T-ex and drinks are available at a cash bar.

The event is hosted by the Thomas P. Turner Foundation and proceeds benefit Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon, Southern Hancock and Eastern Hancock schools. Tickets are at eventbrite.com/e/511248647467. For more on the foundation, visit thomaspturnerfoundation.com.

Chamber to hear from four school superintendents

GREENFIELD – “The State of Education in Hancock County” will be featured Feb. 7 in a meeting of the Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

The event, at 11:30 a.m. at NineStar Connect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield, features all four superintendents of local school districts. Cost is $15 and includes lunch. Register at greenfieldcc.org.

Local students named to Olivet dean’s list

HANCOCK COUNTY – Students with local ties were on the fall 2022 dean’s list at Olivet Nazarene University.

Carsyn Burdine of Greenfield; Stephanie Clark of Greenfield; Carley Logan of Greenfield; Kaylee Walden of Greenfield; and Jaici Wright of Fortville were included in the list, which honors full-time undergraduate students attaining a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Olivet Nazarene University is an accredited Christian liberal arts university in Bourbonnais, Ill.

Cedarville names local students to honor lists

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several local students were honored by Cedarville University recently for attaining a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Abigail Himes of McCordsville and Hannah Kinion of Greenfield were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2022 semester.

Those named to the dean’s honor list, for attaining a 3.75 grade point average, included Sarah Hannay of McCordsville and Madison Roberts of New Palestine.

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited Baptist institution.

Breese named to Knox honor list

GREENFIELD – Phoenix Breese of Greenfield was recently named to the dean’s list of Knox College.

To attain the honor, students must have earned a 3.6 grade point average or higher. Knox College is a national liberal arts college located in Galesburg, Ill.

SNHU honors local students

HANCOCK COUNTY – Southern New Hampshire University recently named several local students to the president’s list for the fall 2022 semester.

Mikala Riley of Greenfield; Brandon Pope of Greenfield; and Wyndell Birch of New Palestine were named on the honor list

The president’s list is for full-time undergraduate students who earned a minimum grade point average of 3.7 or higher. SNHU is a private, nonprofit institution located in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The Landing to host teen program open house

GREENFIELD – The Landing in Greenfield will host a Discovery Cafe Open House at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 6.

Discovery Cafe is a place for people ages 12-17 who may be facing mental health, substance abuse or other life issues to “be real and to find a belonging”

The event will allow people to tour the space, meet staff and students, hear information about the program and more. Reservations are required for a head count on dinner items.
