In its final non-conference game of the season, Mt. Vernon’s girls basketball team beat host Richmond 49-17 Tuesday.

The Marauders improved to 14-6 with the victory.

Junior Ellery Minch had 27 points and nine rebounds. Easton Wampler added double-figure scoring with 10 to go with three rebounds and three assists.

Khloe Patterson had eight points, four steals, four rebounds and four assists.

Kaitlyn Laffey and Kanyonrae Kenny had five rebounds each.

Richmond dropped to 5-13.

Leading the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 4-0 record, Mt. Vernon plays its final three games against HHC teams. The first is Friday, at home, against Greenfield-Central.

Boys wrestling

Dragons defeat Triton Central

In the final home match of the season Tuesday, New Palestine’s boys wrestling team defeated Triton Central 54-24.

The Dragons won 10 matches, five by fall, three by forfeit and two by decision.

Winners by fall were, Gabe Flick (160), Shaun Glass (195), Cole Vandygriff (120), Tyler Lavin (126) and Isaac Poetz (145). Lavin’s pin was the quickest of the night, 21 seconds. Vandygriff won in :53.

Gunner Butt (106) won a 2-0 decision and Colin Whetsel (182) won 3-1.

Jaedyn Jeffries (152), Gavin Wilcher (170) and Noah Neat (113) all won by forfeit.

The Dragons travel to Greenwood Thursday.

Royals third at Lapel

Eastern Hancock’s boys wrestling team went 3-2 in duals and finished third at Saturday’s Lapel Invitational.

The Royals defeated Lapel (57-12), Pendleton Heights JV (49-12) and Blue River Valley (48-9).

They lost to Clinton Central (48-27) and Zionsville JV (45-30).

Cameron Volz (138) and Brayden Tincher (182) both went 5-0. Volz reached the 99 career wins mark.

Gabe Sotelo (120), Zane Badgley (126), Hunter Survant (132) and Gabe Johnson (170) each went 4-1. Others with winning records included, Griffin Knight (113, 3-2), Ethan Sipes (152, 3-1) and Dom Shelby (160, 3-2).

Eastern Hancock returns to action Saturday for the Mid-Eastern Conference tournament at Daleville.

Girls swimming

G-C still unbeaten

Greenfield-Central’s girls swimming and diving team remained unbeaten in the dual meet season with a 123-60 victory at Yorktown Monday.

G-C won nine events. Rachel Stutz, Norah Johnson, Mary Ellen Stratman and Alyssa Osborn opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay.

The Cougars swept the relays. In the 200 freestyle, Johnson, Stutz, Osborn and Cecelia Duffy-Johnson finished first. The 400 freestyle group of Duffy-Johnson, Reagan Crouch, Selah Vahle and Stratman also grabbed first-place ribbons.

Individually, Johnson won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke races. Duffy-Johnson won the 500 freestyle. Stratman took top honors in the 100 backstroke. Osborn won the 200 IM and Kersey Hudson was victorious in 1-meter diving.

In the final dual meet of the season, the Cougars host Shelbyville Thursday.

Cougars defeated by Tigers

Greenfield-Central’s boys swimming and diving team lost 119-64 at Yorktown Monday.

Winners for the Cougars included Jaeden Peters, in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle races, and Alex Jahrsdoerfer in the 1-meter diving competition.

The Cougars host Shelbyville Thursday.
