CHARLOTTESVILLE — At Saturday’s boys basketball game against Greenfield-Central, Eastern Hancock recognized its latest inductees into the Eastern Hancock Athletic Hall of Fame.

Established by the athletic boosters in 2008, the hall of fame has 38 athletes, three coaches and four teams.

The Class of 2023 includes two athletes and one team.

Joining the prestigious group are Shelby Mourey Reed, Kiersten Schrope Martin and the 2012 girls cross country team.

Mourey Reed is a 2015 EHHS grad. She earned letters in basketball and track and is one of only three Eastern Hancock athletes to be a two-time state finalist in track and field.

She qualified in the high jump in both her junior and senior years. Mourey Reed was a three-time sectional champion in the high jump and a regional champion as a senior. She also was a two-time regional qualifier in the 4×100 relay. She won Mid-Hoosier Conference championships in both the high jump and 200-meter dash. She also holds school records in the high jump (5-feet, 8-inches) and 400 relay (51.51 seconds).

Schrope Martin graduated in 2014. She lettered in cross country, basketball and track and field.

She was the cross country team’s most valuable runner four straight years. She was the leader of the semi-state qualifying team as a junior. She was a regional qualifier three times and a semi-state qualifier twice.

Schrope Martin was twice named All-County and All-Mid-Hoosier Conference for both cross country and basketball.

In basketball, she graduated as the single-season record-holder for assists (147) and steals (118) and career record-holder for steals (305). She had the first quadruple-double in girls basketball history.

For track and field, she is the school record-holder for the 800 meters (2:19.45) and 4×400 relay (4:13.97) and winner of sectional, county and conference championships in both events.

Schrope Martin led the team to conference titles in each of her last two seasons. She qualified for the regional in two events as a sophomore, four events as a junior and three events as a senior and was named team MVP each of her last three years.

The 2012 girls cross country team is the only EH team to qualify for semi-state in any single-class sport, along with being the first girls team to qualify for semi-state in any sport.

Coach Rex Putt’s team won three invitationals, the Mid-Hoosier Conference, placed third in the sectional, fifth in the regional and 20th at the Carmel Semi-State. Team members included senior Shelby Wyatt McCollum, junior Hannah Miller, junior Alex Perkins, junior Kiersten Schrope Martin, freshman Karlee Gray, freshman Cara Johnson, freshman Emily Schrope and freshman Hope Spaulding.
