Garage destroyed in New Palestine fire

NEW PALESTINE – County fire officials along with firefighters from the Indianapolis Fire Department were on the scene Sunday afternoon working a confirmed structure fire in the 6500 block of West 200S in New Palestine.

There are no reports of anyone being injured. Officials from Sugar Creek Township Fire Department tell the Daily Reporter it appears the fire started in the garage and was contained to that area.

The fire was reported around 3:09 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15. Andy Neumeister, SCTFD said while the home did sustain smoke and some water damage they were able to save the house with the exception of the kitchen which also sustained fire, water and smoke damage.

Neumeister said the family was home when the fire broke out. The home owners told officials they smelled smoke and went to the garage to investigate and saw the fire. They were able to get everyone out with no issues. Crews are investigating to determine the cause.
