Shapes, colors featured in new art show

GREENFIELD – Take in shapes of all sizes and mediums in a new show this month at the Twenty North Gallery.

A geometric art show called “The Shape of Things to Come” is featured all month, with an artist reception and prizes awarded at 6:30 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 13.

Geometric art uses straight and curved lines and color to form shapes, patterns and designs, according to Hancock County Arts. Geometric art had a cult following in the early Greek period of 900 B.C. and comes in various types, sizes and shapes.

The gallery is at 20 N. State St., Greenfield. Admission is free; the gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Thursdays and Saturdays. For more, visit hancockcountyarts.org.

Children’s theater to host auditions for new play

GREENFIELD – KidsPlay, Inc. children’s theater will host auditions for third- through eighth-grade students for the spring production of “Gravestone Manor.”

Auditions are 6-8:30 p.m. Jan. 17 for returning KidsPlay participants, and at the same time Jan. 19 for new auditioners. Auditions are in the Memorial Building, 98 E. North St., Greenfield.

The play is scheduled for April 21-23 and will include short comedic skits. Parts are available for up to 40 speaking roles and 12 dancers. New auditioners should come prepared with an audition monologue of one minute or less. Rehearsals will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8:30 p.m. For more, email [email protected].

Motown show seeks local young singers

GREENFIELD – Local talented youth are sought for auditions for an upcoming Motown show at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts.

Auditions for “Motown Forever: Presented by Frederic & Ronza” are 6:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 and 17 at the downtown theater. The artists are seeking Greenfield area youth ages 8-14 to try out for two roles available in a Jackson 5 group. Prepare 24 bars of a Jackson 5 song to sing, acapella. Singers not chosen can be part of the community choir.

The performance is scheduled for Feb. 24.

Downtown events lined up for 2023

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Main Street has announced events for 2023, but specific dates and details for the events will be released later.

A murder mystery dinner will be in February; the event is for adults only, but a mystery matinee will also be held for ages 6 and older.

In May there will be “Mom, Movie and MMM… Ice Cream,” featuring Libby’s Ice Cream and a movie at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts.

The annual Touch A Truck event will be in September. In October is “Tricks, Treats and a Movie.” The annual Ho Ho Ho Holiday Breakfast will return in December. Follow Greenfield Main Street on social media for updates or visit greenfieldmainstreet.org.
