Blood drives coming up

HANCOCK COUNTY — Versiti Blood Center of Indiana has issued an emergency appeal for blood donations. With less than a day’s supply of available blood, communities throughout the state face a potential crisis as hospitals may not have the blood needed to treat patients.

Versiti saw a significant decline in donations during the holiday season, and the downward trend continues into the new year. Unfortunately, the need for blood does not take a holiday, and there’s been an uptick in emergency room visits and trauma patients requiring mass blood transfusions, decimating the blood supply.

Versiti provides blood and blood products to 100 hospital partners throughout the state. To maintain a safe blood supply, 2,900 donors are needed every week.

The following blood drives are coming up this month in Hancock County that are open to the public. Visit links to sign up.
