Greenfield-Central lost to unbeaten state-ranked Indian Creek and defeated winless Lafayette Jefferson in the Lebanon Bloom Bank Classic Tuesday.

The Cougars (8-7) will play a yet to be determined opponent at 4:30 p.m. today in the Lebanon auxiliary gymnasium.

A 54-36 loss to Indian Creek to start the day ended Greenfield-Central’s four-game winning streak.

If not for a poor first-quarter against the Braves, the Cougars may have had a shot of extending their winning streak to six.

Greenfield-Central was held scoreless in the opening period against the unbeaten Braves, who came in 13-0, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A and No. 11 in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (non-class) poll.

The Cougars were outscored 14-0 in the opening period and 40-36 in the remaining periods.

Sophomore Chaney Brown led Greenfield-Central with 14 points. Classmate Brooklyn McConnell had six points. Aryana Hibbard and Katie Holmes each scored five points.

The Cougars bounced back from the loss with a 51-32 win over the Bronchos (0-12). Greenfield-Central’s defense helped hold Jeff to just six total points in the middle quarters.

Brown was one of three double-figure scorers, leading the Cougars with 17 points. Hibbard finished with 11 and Holmes added 10.

After leading 14-8 at the end of the first period, G-C extended the lead to 38-14 heading into the final quarter.

North White (3-11) lost 52-27 to Rochester Tuesday.

Depending on the outcome of the 11 a.m. matchup, the Marauders will play in either the fifth-place (5:30 p.m.) or seventh-place (4 p.m.) game at RMS.
