Roland named DePauw’s top frosh

DePauw’s Joey Roland, a graduate of Greenfield-Central High School was named the Tigers football team’s top freshman player.

At the recent DePauw University football banquet, outside linebacker Joey Roland received the Edwin C. Boswell Freshman Award for outstanding freshman football player.

Roland is a graduate of Greenfield-Central High School.

The award is in memory of Edwin C. Boswell, Jr., longtime member of the DePauw Board of Trustees who had a life-long interest in DePauw intercollegiate athletics.

This award is in recognition of exemplary mental attitude, determination, and daily dedication to the success of the DePauw University football program. Roland played in all 10 regular season games plus the NCAA Division III first-round playoff game and finished with 16 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one pass deflection and one forced fumble.

DePauw University finished 9-2 on the season winning the annual Monon Bell game against Wabash and the North Coast Athletic Conference outright. DePauw outscored their opponents in regular season games 400-127.

Strege Tabbed HCAC Diver of the Week

Anderson University women’s swimming and diving senior Halle Strege was tabbed as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Diver of the Week, which was announced by the conference on Monday.

Strege was selected as the HCAC Diver of the Week for the eighth time in her career.

Strege locked up first place in the 11-dive 1-meter diving event with a score of 395.60 points and an average of 35.96 points per dive. The senior from McCordsville hit the 11-Dive 1-Meter Diving NCAA ‘B’ Qualifying Standard of 395 points. Strege qualifies for the NCAA Diving Regional if she achieves a score of at least 395 a second time this season.

Men’s Soccer

Mundell transferring to D-I school

Caleb Mundell is leaving the University of Indianapolis to play NCAA Division I soccer at Northern Kentucky University.

A former standout at Greenfield-Central High School, Mundell, just completed his junior season at UIndy.

For the Greyhounds, as a midfielder, Mundell played in 42 games over three seasons and earned first team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors this past season. UIndy went 10-5-3 and made it to the GLVC Championship semifinals as well as the NCAA Division II first round. Northern Kentucky is coming off a 4-11-2 season.
