Cougars pick up road HHC win

Greenfield-Central outscored Shelbyville 15-11 in the final quarter to erase a deficit and win 42-39 in a key road Hoosier Heritage Conference girls basketball game Tuesday.

Three of the Cougars eight 3-pointers came in the final period.

Two of senior Aryana Hibbard’s four treys came in the final quarter. She finished with 12 points. Sophomore Chaney Brown led the Cougars with 17 points, including a pair of 3s.

Brooklyn McConnell had nine points and two 3s, both came in the first quarter.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the HHC. Shelbyville dropped to 9-3 and 1-3.

The Golden Bears were led by Kylee Edwards with 20 points.

Greenfield-Central continues conference play Saturday afternoon with a 1:30 p.m. matchup, at home, against Delta.

Burgess to stay with Louisville

New Palestine senior offensive lineman Luke Burgess announced on his Twitter page Wednesday morning he plans to stay committed with the University of Louisville.

Burgess, a 6-8, 291-pound left tackle, committed to the Cardinals in June.

On Dec. 5, Louisville coach Scott Satterfield took the head coaching job at the University of Cincinnati. Burgess said he planned on staying with Louisville, but wanted to see where things went after Satterfield left for Cincinnati.

He visited with new Louisville coach Jeff Brohm last week and on announced on Twitter Wednesday, he had “built a bond” with Louisville and remains committed to the ACC school.

Burgess has one more high school game remaining before leaving for Louisville.

He will play in Saturday’s U.S. Army Bowl in Texas.

Taylor to coach All-Stars

Greenfield-Central defensive coordinator Trent Taylor has been named to be an assistant coach for the Indiana Football Coaches Association North-South All-Star game to be played this summer.

Taylor was named the Region 8 assistant coach. Taylor retired after this past season with the Cougars, spending 16 years as an assistant coach in the program.

Girls swimming

EH beats Burris

In a dual meet at Eastern Hancock Tuesday, the Royals girls swim team defeated Muncie Burris 75-41.

Eastern Hancock is 6-7 on the season.

The Royals will compete next Tuesday in a home meet against Heritage Christian and Lapel.

Boys swimming

Owls defeat Royals

Eastern Hancock’s boys swim team lost to Muncie Burris Tuesday at the EH pool.

The Royals lost 103-44 and are 1-10 on the season.
