New Palestine to go Grinchy

NEW PALESTINE – Come to a “Whoville Holiday” in New Palestine this weekend, with the community’s Winter Fest. Visit the New Palestine Lions Club at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 for a free family movie of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas; the club is at 5242 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine. The community’s festival continues Saturday, with a Christmas walk from 3-6 p.m.; a “Grinchmas Parade” at 4 p.m., storytime with Mrs. Claus at 4:45 p.m. and a visit with Santa at 5 p.m. A luminary lighting takes place at 5:30 p.m. followed by a tree lighting at 6:15 p.m.

Ugly Christmas sweater party this Saturday

GREENFIELD – Create your own ugly (or cute) Christmas sweater this weekend. Bring your own sweater or shirt and $5 to decorate with supplies provided by Greenfield Parks and Recreation. The Ugly Sweater Party will be at the Patricia Elmore Center, 280 N. Apple St., Greenfield from 1-6 p.m. Dec. 10; drop in or pre-register at parks.greenfieldin.org.

Art gallery to feature photography, Christmas items

GREENFIELD – The Twenty North Gallery in downtown Greenfield is featuring decorated trees, an artisan shop, and the “Your World-Open Photography Exhibit.” An artist reception for the photography exhibit is 6:30-8:30 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 9.

The exhibit is open for viewing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday in December, as well as 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

The gallery, 20 N. State St., Greenfield, is also a collection site for the Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen this holiday season. Visit kbmsk.org/wish-list for suggested donation items.

Libraries hosting holiday parties, events

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local libraries are hosting several upcoming Christmas events.

“A Classic Hollywood Christmas” event for adults is at 6 p.m. today, Dec. 8 at the main branch of the Hancock County Public Library. Film historian Dr. Annette Bochenek will make a presentation. Register at hcplibrary.org.

A Holly Jolly Holiday Party is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Fortville Community Center, 400 W. Church St., Fortville. The event is hosted by Fortville Parks Department and the Fortville Vernon Township Public Library. Visit fvtpl.org for details.

A Grinch movie night is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL; the family event features activities and the original film. Register at hcplibrary.org.

Cookie decorating will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Fortville-Vernon Township Public Library, 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville.

“A Christmas Story” continues this weekend

GREENFIELD – The play “A Christmas Story” continues this weekend in downtown Greenfield.

The play, based on the film, is presented by the Ricks-Weil Theatre Company Dec. 9, 10 and 11 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts. Tickets are $13 for adults and $7 for children. Visit ricksweiltheatrecompany.seatyourself.biz for more.
