The Hancock County Historical Society (HCHS) is pleased to announce that the Fortville Tribune (1940-1985) and Fortville Community Shopper (1979-2005) newspapers have been digitized and are now keyword searchable on Newspapers.com. Subscribers may view the Fortville papers from the comfort of home, or search the database for free at the Hancock County Public Library with your library card.
The Hancock County Historical Society would like to thank Tom Alexander (Vernon Twp. Director at HCHS.) and his son Robert Alexander for saving the original papers from a dumpster so that the HCHS could have them digitized. The HCHS would also like to thank the last editors of the Fortville Tribune (Janet (Albea) Gregg) and the Fortville Community Shopper (Stacy Cox) for signing their consent to have these papers digitized with Newspapers.com, and the Daily Reporter for taking in and housing the original Fortville newspapers. The HCHS would also like to thank Dick Collins (original publisher of the Fortville Community Shopper) for his continued support see the Fortville newspapers searchable online.
