GREENFIELD

Marilyn L. (Parsons) Levering, age 91, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at her home. Born on March 27, 1931, in Bangor, Maine, she was the daughter of Lettie (Page) and Augustus Parsons. Marilyn was a 1949 graduate of North High School in Akron, Ohio. On September 5, 1952, she married Richard L. Levering in Enid, Oklahoma.

Marilyn was a homemaker, a dedicated military spouse, and loved taking care of and being with her family most of all. She was always in attendance for sporting events, musical performances, and school events for all of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, Marilyn loved the Lord and raised her children to follow God, respect others, and to always be kind, and she set the example through her church and community activities, and by her genuine care and concern for others. Marilyn was a long-term member of Greenfield Christian Church and served the church in many capacities over the years. She has been an elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher, VBS volunteer, member of the choir, and chair of the Evangelism Committee. Marilyn and Richard were the leaders of CYF, the high school youth group, for many years. There are numerous memories of youth group activities and it was not uncommon for the house to be full of teenagers, with Marilyn fixing lasagna and loving every minute of it! She has had a positive, Christian influence on many people and has impacted the lives of numerous youth at the church. Marilyn served the community in many ways as well. She was elected to Greenfield City Council three times and proudly served in that role from 1996-2007. In addition, she was on Riley Festival committee for many years and she is also a former board member of the Smoke Free Coalition; a former board member of Ricks Theatre, and a member of the Hancock County Republicans. When her children were in school, she volunteered as a room mother and also served on the GCHS Textbook Committee. Marilyn was also a Girl Scout leader and led troops in Izmir, Turkey (while stationed there with the USAF), and Alexandria, Virginia. Marilyn also enjoyed traveling, especially to her home state of Maine to visit family and to eat a crab roll or two. Marilyn has set an example for all to follow and she will be dearly missed by her family, her church, and her community.

“Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21)
