FORTVILLE – Fortville officials are planning a bigger Fortville Winterfest, which will now be hosted by Fortville Parks Department.

Fortville Witnerfest, presented by the Town of Fortville and 3Rivers Federal Credit Union, is scheduled for noon-7 p.m. Dec. 3.

Since its inception in 2010, Winterfest had been a cornerstone event for local non-profit Fortville Action, Inc., but due to its growth over the years a transition was made for 2022.

A free, one-day event, Winterfest has become a holiday tradition for many Indiana families.

“Winterfest 2022 will be packed with more vendors, tasty holiday eats and even more holiday spirit,” said Fortville Parks Department Event Coordinator Natalie Tucker in a press release. “We hope all of Central Indiana will join us this year to experience the wonder and magic of the holidays in our charming town.”

During the festival, Main Street will be blocked and festival-goers will be able to enjoy Fortville’s downtown shops, eateries, live music, bonfire stations, family photo ops, vendors and a kids’ zone. Additional activities include a festive parade at 1:30 p.m., a tree lighting at 6 p.m., visits with Santa, ice skating, a gaming truck and a kids’ crafts station with free popcorn and hot cocoa. Additionally, the popular snowflake princess and Jack Frost contest is back again this year. Throughout November contest participants enjoy Winterfest-themed activities, learn a dance and work to raise funds to support causes within the community.

The kids’ zone and all festival vendors and businesses open at noon. Many of the local Fortville eateries will stay open well past the end of the festival as well.

Businesses along Main Street with visible storefront windows will be participating in a window decorating contest in celebration of Winterfest.

“Several families have shared that they make a full day of it and include Winterfest as part of their family Christmas tree outing,” said Tucker. “Fortville is central to several local Christmas tree farms, and it’s quaint to see the trees tied to the top of the cars as they travel through our town. It’s fun to think you could enjoy a free holiday festival, shop for unique gifts, get lunch, visit Santa and get your tree all in one day.”

Numerous volunteers and sponsors come together each year to make Winterfest a reality. This year’s partners include 3Rivers Federal Credit Union, Moon Drops Distillery, Ryan Homes, The Current, Ben Eades State Farm Agency, Greenfield Banking Company and Fortville Action, Inc.
