Local schools, community groups to honor veterans

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several schools and community service organizations are honoring veterans this month.

Invite a Veteran to Lunch will be at noon today, Nov. 1 at NineStar Connect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield. The event is hosted by the Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce and is free to veterans and $15 to non-veterans. Details and registration is at greenfieldcc.org.

The Brandywine Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host two seatings of a free lunch at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Ninestar Connect. Reserve a spot by Thursday, Nov. 3 with a name, address, phone number and choice of lunch time to [email protected] or call 317-727-1605.

Greenfield Central Junior High School will host a program for veterans at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 11. The event will feature live music performed by the school’s choir and band, with a reception afterwards for veteran guests and families.

The public is welcome to join a free program at Greenfield-Central High School at 2:15 p.m. Nov. 11 in the high school gym, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. The event is open to the entire community. A reception for veterans with light refreshments will be at 1:30 p.m. in the school library; enter th rough the front entrance of the school.

Eastern Hancock High School is also hosting a program Nov. 11. A reception for veterans will be at 9 a.m., followed by a program for students and veterans at 10 a.m. featuring keynote speaker Lt. Col. Craig Wagoner, a retired U.S. Army helicopter pilot.Reserve a spot at 317-936-5595.

The EHHS music department will also host a Veterans Day Concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 in the school’s auditorium, with performances by the band and choir. The school is located at 10320 E. 250N., Charlottesville.
