GREENFIELD
Janet E. (North) Rura, known to most as Jan, age 82, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Morristown Manor. Born on June 15, 1940, in Greenfield, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Ruby M. (Whitaker) and Kenneth J. North. She was a 1958 graduate of Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Massachusetts. On June 29, 2001, Jan married Norman D. Smith in Greenfield, Indiana.
She spent most of her career working in secretarial positions at companies including Boise Cascade, Reynolds Farm Equipment and Whiteford Trucking. From 1972 to 1984, Jan was a chiropractic assistant for Lawrence Chiropractic Center. She loved her rescue cats dearly and enjoyed traveling in her free time. She was a very loving wife, always ending each night by telling her husband she loved him and was thankful to have him by her side.
Jan is survived by her loving husband, Norman; children, LouAnn (Harry) Ewing, Steven (Cherie) Rura, and Dennis (Sheila) Rura; stepson, Jeffery Smith; grandchildren, Christina, Benjamin, Lauren, Logan, Ashley, Jacob, Joseph and Jeremy; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Kenneth; first husband, Dr. Lawrence Rura; and brother, Wayne North.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
