Local resident helps protect police

NEW PALESTINE — Officials with the New Palestine Police Department sent out a big thank-you to long-time resident Charles Haigerty for his continuous support of the local police department. Throughout the years Haigerty has assisted the police department with financing for six new ballistic vests for the town’s officers. Police Chief Bob Ehle said Haigerty’s kind acts through the years is much appreciated by the officers and their families.

“Just so you know — Mr. Haigerty — because of you, six of my seven officers have new ballistic vests,” Ehle said at the most recent council meeting, Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Town council president Bill Niemier read a proclamation of appreciation thanking Haigerty for the kind gestures through the years letting him know how grateful the police and other town officials are for his ongoing dedication to the New Palestine Police Department.

Ehle presented Haigerty with the proclamation while the town’s council and those in attendance gave Haigerty a round of applause.
