New Palestine’s Ian Moore committed Thursday to Ohio State University.

NEW PALESTINE — One of the country’s top recruits has decided to play football at one of the country’s top programs.

New Palestine junior offensive lineman Ian Moore announced, via Twitter on Thursday, he has verbally committed to play football at Ohio State University.

Moore, a 6-feet, 6-inch 290-pound right tackle for Class 4A No. 1 New Palestine, is ranked as the No. 1 offensive tackle in his class by Rivals.com.

Last month, Moore said the top five programs he was considering were Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and Ohio State.

On his Twitter page Thursday, Moore wrote, “First of all I just wanted to say thank you to all of the coaches that have taken the time out of their schedules to recruit me and build a relationship with me.

“With that said I’d like to announce that I have committed to THE Ohio State University.”

Moore went on to thank two communities, his former home Flora, and New Palestine for their support as well as teammates, coaches and family.

“It’s a great honor for him and his family and it’s a great honor for our program, as well,” New Palestine head coach Kyle Ralph said. “He’s transformed himself since he came here. He’s worked hard, is very humble and he’s a kid of very high character. He does things the right way on and off the field. We’re very proud of him.”

While the Dragons are No. 1 in Class 4A, Moore’s future school is ranked No. 2 in the nation and considered one of the favorites to, again, make it to the College Football Playoffs. The Buckeyes are 6-0 on the season.
