Historical society to delve into Annie

“Annie” the comic strip and musical character’s roots to Greenfield will be discussed at an upcoming event.

GREENFIELD – Dig into the origins of the character who sings “The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow” and her ties to Greenfield in an event by the Hancock County Historical Society.

Little Orphan Annie and Ragedy Ann can trace their roots to the 1885 poem by James Whitcomb Riley “Little Orphant Annie,” which happens to be the theme for the upcoming 2022 Riley Festival in Greenfield. To learn more about Little Orphan Annie and the real person who inspired her, head to the Hancock County Historical Society’s Chapel in the Park Museum at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2. The event will feature local historian Brigette Cook Jones. Admission is free but donations are accepted. The museum is located adjacent to Riley Park, 28 N. Apple St., Greenfield.
