Movie event this Saturday

GREENFIELD – Head to Depot Street Park Saturday, Oct. 1 for a free movie.

The final installment of Greenfield Parks Department’s summer movie series begins at 6 p.m. with lawn games. The movie begins at dusk.

Members Best Show set for gallery

GREENFIELD – Several events are coming up through the Hancock County Arts Council.

The Members Best Show will be on display at the Twenty North Gallery in October in honor of the Riley Festival. The gallery will also host a pumpkin decorating contest during the festival.

A needle felting workshop will be at the gallery Oct. 2, while a floral arrangement class is set for Oct. 15.

Online bidding for the council’s annual Auction for the Arts begins Oct. 1 and concludes with the Diamonds and Denim Gala, set for Oct. 22. For more or to register for classes, visit hancockcountyarts.org.

Libraries hosting events in October

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local libraries have several events coming up for children and adults.

Head to Fortville this weekend for Penguin Palooza. Animals from the Newport Aquarium will be at the Fortville Community Center, 400 W. Church St., for two public sessions at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Participants will learn about the animals, their natural history, diet, predators and geography. The event is co-sponsored by the Fortville-Vernon Township Public Library.

Children ages 8-10 are invited to join in a new book club Oct. 4 at the Sugar Creek Branch of the Hancock County Public Library. Reading Dragons Book Club begins at 6 p.m. School-aged children may also want to check out a Lego free build program at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the main branch of the HCPL.

Adult programs coming up at the HCPL include the Ladies in READ Book Club, set for 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at the main branch. Ruth Ware’s novel “In a Dark, Dark Wood” will be discussed. Adults may also consider the “Cafe Macabre” event Oct. 6, where six Hoosier artists and authors share tales from their book about things women fear and how they express that fear. Theater group seeks talent show participants

GREENFIELD – Friends of the Theater are already dreaming of Christmas, planning ahead for Christmas at the Ricks.

Last year’s online talent show fundraiser was such a success, that this year video tryouts are accepted for a chance to perform live Dec. 17 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts.

Groups or individuals of all ages are welcome to submit a video of a talent, including but not limited to singing, dancing, or performing an instrument. Videos should be between three and five minutes in length and entries must be holiday-themed and family friendly.

Send your video to [email protected] by 6 p.m. Nov. 18 and look for a confirmation email. Public voting online is Nov. 20-Dec. 4.

The Christmas at the Ricks show Dec. 17 will feature headliners Josh Kaufman and Cliff Richey. The three local finalists from the online video voting will compete for a $500 first place prize, $250, second place; and $100, third. Email [email protected] for more.
