Cougars beat state-ranked Huskies

After a scoreless first half, Greenfield-Central scored four times in the final 40 minutes to defeat Class 2A No. 16 Hamilton Heights 4-1 at the G-C Soccer Complex Monday.

Nine minutes into the second session, Paige McCarley got G-C on the board first, on a pass from Carly Means. Six minutes later Sarah Contreraz made it 2-0, assisted from a header by Chloe Gardner.

The lead grew to four on two more goals from McCarley. Contreraz and Chaney Brown had assists.

Greenfield-Central improved to 8-6-1 and will finish the regular season at home Thursday against Heritage Christian.

Dragons secure second in conference

New Palestine defeated host Shelbyville 3-1 Monday to lock in second place in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

The Dragons got a pair of goals from sophomore Tylar Whitaker. Anna Luker also scored a goal.

New Palestine is 10-3-1 on the season and finished HHC play 6-1.

The Dragons travel to Center Grove today.

Volleyball

New Pal wins again

New Palestine is 17-2 after a 3-0 win, at home, against Franklin Central, Monday.

The Dragons won by set scores of 27-25, 25-14, 25-14.

Lauren Wilson had 17 kills and eight digs. Reagan Kleiman had eight kills and three blocks. Rachel Burke added seven kills.

Defensively, Azure Flagle and Honour Mallory each had 12 digs. Kyndra Monteith had 10 digs.

Setter Isabella Gizzi had 37 assists and eight digs.

G-C loses at Southport

Greenfield-Central dropped a 3-0 decision at Southport Monday.

The Cougars lost by set scores of 26-24, 25-14, 25-15.

Rilee Roland had eight kills. Mya Grigsby contributed 17 digs and Makenna Rankins had 16 assists.

The Cougars are 9-12 on the season and play host to Pendleton Heights Thursday.

Royals fall to Broncos

Eastern Hancock was defeated 3-0 by Daleville Monday.

The Royals are 16-12 overall and 6-3 in the Mid-Eastern Conference.

Against the Broncos (15-5, 7-1), the Royals lost by set scores of 25-10, 25-19, 25-18.

Eastern welcomes Triton Central Monday and finish the regular season Tuesday, also at home, against Knightstown.
