GREENFIELD — At Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield golf course Monday, the high school fall sports postseason officially begins.

All four Hancock County teams will be among the 10 girls golf programs playing in the New Palestine Sectional.

There are 30 sectionals across the state. Some were scheduled to host tournaments Friday and today.

Tee time on Monday at Hawk’s Tail is 9 a.m.

Along with Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon and New Palestine, other teams in the field include Knightstown, Morristown, Rushville, Shenandoah, Tri and Triton Central.

The top three teams and the three low individuals that are not associated with the top three teams will advance to the Lapel Regional, to be held at Edgewood Golf Club in Anderson on Saturday, Sept. 24.

At the regional, the top three teams and top two individuals not associated with the top three teams will advance to the state finals to be held Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

Mt. Vernon, Greenfield-Central and New Palestine finished 1, 2, 3 in last year’s sectional tournament. The top returning golfer from last year’s sectional is Greenfield-Central’s Sydnie Wherry. She placed fourth. This season, Wherry won individual titles in the Hancock County and Hoosier Heritage Conference tournaments.

New Palestine comes in as the winner of this year’s county tournament. The Dragons were runners-up in the HHC.

Other fall sports post season tournaments are just around the corner.

IHSAA tournament draws for boys soccer (Sept. 25, TBD), girls soccer (Sept. 25, 7 p.m.) and boys tennis (Sept. 26, 7 p.m.), are later this month.

County cross country teams will have their conference championships on Oct. 1 and sectional runs on Oct. 8.

Tournament draws for volleyball (Oct. 2, 7 p.m.), and football (Oct. 9, 5 p.m.) are coming soon.
