Marauders win HHC match at Shelbyville

Mt. Vernon defeated Shelbyville 4-0 in a road Hoosier Heritage Conference match Tuesday.

Finishing a stretch of six straight HHC contests, the Marauders are 5-1 in league play. They are 6-3 overall.

Mt. Vernon had two goals in each half. Four different players scored including, Evan LeRoy, Zach Johnson, Drew Lynch and Brennan LaBelle.

Charlie Cole, Griffin Ruminer, Ethan Tucker and LaBelle each had assists.

Goalkeeper Bryce Glazier had nine saves.

Mt. Vernon hosts the Marauder Classic Saturday and will play Plainfield at 2:45 p.m.

NP-Greenwood to play Sept. 22

The Greenwood at New Palestine boys soccer match, originally scheduled to be played Tuesday, Sept. 13, will be played Sept. 22 at New Palestine. The junior varsity match is slated to open the evening at 6 p.m.

Dragons earn HHC win over Arabians

New Palestine picked up a 3-2 victory over visiting Pendleton Heights Tuesday.

The Hoosier Heritage Conference match was originally scheduled for Monday, but was rained out.

The Dragons got a 7-5, 6-3 win from Moses Haynes at No. 1 singles. Arjomand Khokhar won 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.

New Palestine’s third win came from its No. 2 doubles team of Will Hahn and Joey McPike. They won 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 3 singles, Brendon Sego lost 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. At No. 1 doubles, Max Havel and Eli Sloan lost 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4.

New Palestine is 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

The Dragons were scheduled to play Wednesday, at home, against New Castle. They play host to Triton Central today.

Mt. Vernon defeats Chatard

Mt. Vernon’s boys tennis team improved to 11-2 overall with a 4-1 victory over visiting Bishop Chatard Tuesday.

The Marauders swept singles matches with wins from Adam Koon (6-4, 6-3), Manny Downs (6-4, 6-2) and Tate Cougill (6-2, 6-3).

At No. 2 doubles, Matthew Jones and Max Orelup won 7-6 (2), 7-5.

The Marauders were scheduled to play host to Warren Central on Wednesday. They have a home Hoosier Heritage Conference match scheduled for today against New Castle.

Royals suffer first loss

Eastern Hancock dropped a 3-2 decision at Heritage Christian Tuesday.

It was the first loss of the season for the Royals. They are 7-1.

Eastern Hancock got wins from singles players Luke Fletcher and Luke Schilling.

The Royals were scheduled to host Blue River Valley Wednesday. They travel to Morristown today.

Cougars fall to Shelbyville

Greenfield-Central lost 3-2 to visiting Shelbyville Tuesday.

The Hoosier Heritage Conference match was a makeup of Monday’s scheduled contest that was rained out.

After its home conference match Wednesday with Pendleton Heights, Greenfield-Central travels to Alexandria today.

Dragons win on Senior Night

New Palestine, on its Senior Night Tuesday at Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield, defeated Mt. Vernon and Shenandoah.

The Dragons shot 190. Mt. Vernon finished second with a 209. Shenandoah scored 235.

Senior Zoe Nelson led New Palestine with a 46. Katie Kelley finished with a 48. Lily Kirchner had a 48 and Lauren Appleby finished with a 49.

For Mt. Vernon, Izzy VanHeel was the overall match medalist with a 42.

The teams will compete Monday at the New Palestine Sectional (9 a.m.) at Hawk’s Tail. All three teams that played Tuesday along with Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, Knightstown, Morristown, Rushville, Tri and Triton Central will vie for spots in the regional.

The top three teams and top three individuals not associated with an advancing team will qualify for the Lapel Regional on Sept. 24, held at Edgewood Golf Course.

Eastern competes at Randolph Southern

In Eastern Hancock’s match at Randolph Southern Tuesday, Emily Grant had the low score for the Royals with a 59.

The team plays at Centerville today.

Boys cross country

Markley wins, Royals second at NC

Sophomore Preston Markley was the individual winner and Eastern Hancock finished second as a team in the New Castle Invitational Tuesday at Memorial Park.

Eastern Hancock scored 59 points. Rushville won with 41.

Markley finished the 5K in 17:36.8. Brandon Metz was third at 18:32.1, John Henry Gray 15th at 19:56, Caden Powers 19th at 20:44.6 and Andrew Metz 21st with a 20:55.1.

Other team scores included, Cowan 60, Shenandoah 96, New Castle 112, and Anderson Prep with 146.

The Royals will participate in their own invitational at Eastern Hancock Saturday morning.
