Gibson leading way for nationally-ranked team

Greenfield-Central grad Caroline Gibson is helping lead the way for Indiana Wesleyan’s ninth-ranked, record-setting women’s golf team.

The sophomore set a school record at the program’s initial tournament of the 2022 season, the Players Club Invitational.

In a tournament with six other Top 25 teams, held at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Gibson set a team record with a round of 67. The team set records for one round (291), 36 holes (583) and 54 holes (883).

Indiana Wesleyan beat Taylor by five strokes to win the event.

Gibson finished tied for eighth overall. She had an 81 on the first day of the tournament and a 75 on Day 3.

On the IWU athletics web site, Wildcats coach Kyle Bloom said, “Our women picked right back up where they left off last season. We have five players that can each lead us in scoring in any given round. … to have Caroline Gibson bounce back from a tough round 1 to break the school record with a 67 was a great reflection on how she has grown in her ability to play free.”
