Greenfield-Central, with just 16 points, won the Blackford Invitational Saturday.

Following the Cougars in the seven-team field were Madison-Grant (87), Cowan (105), Blackford (107), Frankton (113), Shenandoah (138) and Elwood (140).

The Cougars had five of the top six spots, including the top four finishers, Griffen Wheeler (16:34.78), Liam Brinkruff (16:41.03), Chris Ross (16:48.16) and Luke Haffner (17:09.91). Carter Crouch (17:46.59) placed sixth.

The team will compete at the South Dearborn Invitational on Saturday.

Dragons third at Whiteland

New Palestine placed third out of 11 teams in Saturday’s Whiteland Invitational.

The Dragons were led by Jake Cooper, who was sixth in 18:07.6. Cody Crawmer was 10th, finishing in 18:21.72. Gavin Smith picked up an 11th place finish with a time of 18:22.06. Other scorers were Jacob Collins (20th – 18:42.93) and Isaac Poetz (21st – 18:44.67).

The Dragons had 68 team points. Whiteland won with 53.

New Palestine will compete at the Riverview Health Flashrock Invitational in Carmel Saturday..

Marauders 7th at Ohio meet

Mt. Vernon’s boys cross country team placed seventh out of 25 teams at the Mason (Ohio) Invitational Saturday.

The meet was won by Mason High School (62), followed by Rock Bridge, Missouri (83) and No. 6 Fishers (107). Mt. Vernon finished with 218.

Tristan Trevino was the top Mt. Vernon runner, placing ninth with a 5K time of 16:19.

Mt. Vernon, ranked No. 21 in the state, was the third highest finishing team from Indiana. No. 14 Brownsburg (186) placed fourth.

Following Trevino, Ahmed Saleh was 32nd (17:14.3). Colin Strachman was 41st (17:27.6).

Isaiah Njau was 70th in 17:52. Landon Willis was 81st in 18:07.2

The Marauders will compete Saturday at the Riverview Health Flashrock Invitational in Carmel Saturday.

Eastern finishes ninth of 20

The Eastern Hancock boys cross country team placed ninth out of 20 teams in the Gray Division at the Wildcat Classic in Marion, Saturday. The Royals were led by a fourth-place finish from Preston Markley (17:39.30) and a sixth-place finish from Brandon Metz (17:44.90).

Other Royal places were Caden Powers 70th (20:20.10), Andrew Metz 73rd (20:25.90), and John Henry Gray 92nd (21:18.30) in the field of 165 runners.

The Royals travel to New Castle for the Trojan Invitational today and host the Eastern Hancock Invitational Saturday morning.

Girls cross country

G-C wins John Mitchell Invite

Greenfield-Central won the John Mitchell Invitational held at Cascade High School Saturday.

The Cougars scored 36 points. Cascade was second with 49. Southmont was third with 68. There were eight teams in the event.

Individually, Lexie Copeland (22:57) led the Cougars with a fifth-place finish. Reagan Crouch (23:04) was sixth and Kendall Barrett (23:39) finished ninth. Emma Capen (23:41) was close behind with a 10th-place finish. Emma Bogle (25:03) rounded out the scoring member of the team, finishing 18th.

The team will compete at the South Dearborn Invitational on Saturday.

New Pal finishes fourth

Courtney Study was the top finisher for New Palestine at the Whiteland Invitational Saturday.

Study finished seventh with a time of 21:20.6 in the 5K run.

The Dragons scored 96 points. Greenwood won with 40.

Following Study, Alexis Baynes placed 18th (22:32.4), Cami Massari was 19th (22:34.42), Edie Schwarb (26th – 23:07.83) and Amelia Stone (30th – 23:32.32) followed.

New Palestine will compete at the Riverview Health Flashrock Invitational in Carmel Saturday.

Mt. Vernon ninth in Ohio event

Mt. Vernon’s girls cross country team placed ninth out of 23 teams in the Mason (Ohio) Invitational Saturday.

Teams from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Missouri competed in the event, won by host Mason with 61 points.

Mt. Vernon scored 265.

Hannah Hauser (19:50) led the Marauders by placing 14th overall. Emma Gale (21:01) was 33rd. Allie Jenson (22:01) finished 77th. Julia Iserloth (22:02) was right behind in 78th. Mindy Cornelius (22:19) rounded out scoring by finishing 86th.

Mt. Vernon will compete at the Riverview Health Flashrock Invitational in Carmel Saturday.

Volleyball

Eastern wins two at invitational

Eastern Hancock picked up victories over Sheridan and Indiana Deaf at the Indiana Deaf School Invitational Saturday.

Against Sheridan, Eastern Hancock (8-9) won 25-23, 26-24. Versus Indiana Deaf, the Royals won 25-19, 25-16.

After a match played Monday at Randolph Southern, the Royals are scheduled to travel to Southwestern Thursday.

Dragons go 2-1 at Greenwood

New Palestine (10-2) finished runner-up at the Greenwood Invitational Saturday.

The Dragons won a pair of 2-0 matches over Monrovia and Scecina to get to the championship contest against host Greenwood.

In the final, New Palestine lost 2-0 by set scores of 25-18, 25-21.

The Dragons are scheduled to host Delta today in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match.

Girls soccer

Mt. Vernon unbeaten in HHC play

Mt. Vernon improved to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 5-0 win over visiting Yorktown Saturday.

The Marauders had four first-half goals.

For the match, Ellie Gawrys scored twice. Kylie Brandes, Mattie Isger and Addy Wong each scored. Brandes had two assists and Lily Printz had an assist.

After taking on No. 13 Fishers Monday, the Marauders are scheduled to visit Center Grove Wednesday.

G-C falls to Col. North

Greenfield-Central (3-4) lost 2-0 to visiting Columbus North Saturday.

North scored both goals in the first half.

Goalkeeper Hannah Skene had eight saves.

The Cougars travel to New Palestine Wednesday.

Boys soccer

Dragons lose to Wildcats

New Palestine fell to 6-4 overall with a 3-0 loss at Lawrence North on Saturday.

The Dragons will play host to Greenwood today.
