GREENFIELD — If success can be measured in gallons of beer, then the 9th annual Hops for Hope event held Aug. 6 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds was a smashing success.

Although the annual event brought in less money than last year, lead organizer Andrea Mallory said the craft-beer-tasting bash still raised roughly $43,000 for the Hancock Hope House, which serves homeless individuals and families from Hancock, Shelby, Henry and Rush counties.

Mallory, the nonprofit’s executive director, said Hops 4 Hope proceeds go toward supporting and expanding Hancock Hope House programming, including group therapy, transportation and rental assistance for residents.

While just under 400 people attended this year, versus 524 last year, “overall the event went very well and was a lot of fun,” she said.

Mallory said the lower turnout may partially be due to so many competing events taking place throughout Hancock County the same day, but she’s looking forward to throwing a big bash for the 10th annual Hops for Hope next year.

“It’s our tenth annual year and I know we want to celebrate that. We’re just not exactly sure what that looks like yet. I have some good ideas, but we’ll just have to wait and see,” she said.

Next year’s event will be bumped to the second weekend in August, and is scheduled for Aug. 12, 2023.
