Editor’s note: The Daily Reporter is featuring local recipes and the stories behind them. Here, Sarah Burnett of Greenfield shares a recipe for tater tot casserole, which she enjoys making with her children, Ethan, age 9, and Ava, 8.
“This recipe is special to my family because my mother, Debbie Waymire makes it at all holiday gatherings and has been a family favorite for years.” she writes. “I learned how to bake and cook watching my mom and helping her in the kitchen at a young age. My children, Ethan and Ava Burnett spend time in the kitchen with me learning the same skills my mother taught me. This is a simple recipe for kids to make or help with in the kitchen. This casserole is a simple, affordable and delicious side to bring to your next cookout or family event and only takes 35 minutes from start to finish.”
Tater tot casserole
1 32-ounce bag tater tots
1 16-ounce bag shredded cheddar cheese
1 10.5 ounce can cream of chicken soup
1 16-ounce container sour cream
Salt and pepper
Thaw and crumble the tater tots. Add to a large bowl. Add the sour cream, cream of chicken soup and salt and pepper. Mix well. Add three-quarters of the bag of cheese. Grease a 9-by-13 pan and add the tater tot mixture to the pan and spread it out. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top of the pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes or until brown on top.
