GREENFIELD – The Rotary Club of Greenfield recognized a transition in leadership and honored members for putting “service above self” in a meeting June 30.

Outgoing president Rob Caird recognized new club president Monica Price-Kowaleski, and she was sworn in.

John Senger was presented with the “Rotarian of the Year Award” for his efforts in attracting new members – five this year – and soliciting sponsorships for major fundraisers. He broke previous records in fundraising; Senger is advertising director of the Daily Reporter and is a club director of Rotary.

Hart Summeier was named “Rookie of the Year” for not hesitating to get involved in many of the activities and programs of the club. Summeier also made significant contributions to fundraising and played a major role in the Gift of Life program. He took an active role in public relations and social media, as well as ran the club’s Memorial Day flag ceremony.

Adam Jurs was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, and Kevin Horrigan was recognized as a Paul Harris Plus 3. Both made significant contributions to the club.

Rotary Internaitonal’s theme for 2021-22 was “Serve to Change Lives” and Caird conducted the year-end review and awards ceremony speaking on his goal to return the club back to normal after the impact of the pandemic.

Caird and his board secured a new meeting place at Greenfield Christian Church; participated with Park Chapel on its Day of Service, supporting the city’s parks department; conducted a spring and fall planting and maintenance project at the Rotary Art Park; and financially supported the parks department in bringing a railroad boxcar to the park, which will display the “Greenfield Inter-urban Trolley” mural created by nationally-known artist Chris Sickles.

This year the club also supported military reserve with a Christmas party; supported the sheriff department’s “Shop with a Deputy” program through bell ringing at Christmastime; conducted a smoke detector blitz; honored teachers through the annual Jeff Harris Apple Day; helped the Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen prepare meals for young adults that attend The Landing; conducted quarterly blood drives; conducted a food pantry drive; and helped Meals on Wheels deliver food each Tuesday.

The club also conducted its annual gift of Life auction, raising a record-breaking $66,500, surpassing the goal of $50,000.

The 2022-23 officers and board directors were also sworn in at the meeting: Monica Price-Kowaleski, president; Rob Caird, past president; Brian Lott, president elect; Drek Rogers, vice president; Kim Hall, secretary; Linda Jones, treasurer; Joe Duffy, sergeant at arms; and directors Matt Pfeifer, John Senger, Wayne Addison, Rita Fish, Sara Joyner and Adam Jurs.
